STIJL

STIJL - 40 years of fashion, rue Antoine Dansaertstraat Brussels - Zegris 2025

STIJL opened on the 27th of September 1984. Its unique selection of emerging fashion designers inside a gallery-like space immediately attracted a curious clientele of local creatives. Located in the then-desolate rue Antoine Dansaertstraat, STIJL soon became the beating heart of a blossoming neighbourhood and part of a booming cultural scene.

This publication celebrates the shop's 40th anniversary, accompanying a retrospective exhibition at the Fashion and Lace Museum in Brussels. Through interviews with clients and collaborators, and in-depth analyses by Belgium's leading fashion journalists, this book unveils the function of the independent fashion store - and highlights a crucial chapter in Belgian fashion history.
