Banc titre

Starting from a collection of old books—taken apart, handled, and re-inked—Banc titre establishes an experimental process without a predetermined outcome.

Through redaction, displacement, and accumulation, the images lose their original function and enter into new relationships.
Banc titre forms an open-ended corpus, one that can be continually recomposed.

The book brings together an initial state of this work. The exhibition extends its material into space, between printed fragments, images, film, and projection.

 

Bruno Hellenbosch (born 1977, Brussels) is a Belgian artist whose practice moves between woodcut, painting, drawing, illustration and installation. Trained in wood engraving at La Cambre, where he graduated in 2002, he has developed an expansive approach to printmaking, combining the discipline of traditional engraving with an exuberant accumulation of images, materials and references.
His work brings together fragments from art history, popular culture, literature and everyday imagery, creating dense compositions in which historical and contemporary references collide. The resistance of wood, the processes of carving, inking and overprinting, and the transformation of the matrix itself are central to his practice.
In 2007, Hellenbosch received the Prix de la Gravure et de l’Image imprimée in La Louvière for a triptych in woodcut. His subsequent projects have included extensive series inspired by works such as Dante’s Divine Comedy and Boccaccio’s Decameron. He lives and works in Brussels.
