Sol LeWitt - Centre Pompidou-Metz 2012

Published on the occasion the American conceptual artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007) unique project at Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2012: presenting a retrospective of Sol LeWitt's wall drawings on a scale unprecedented in Europe: with thirty-three mural works, spanning the artist's career from his earliest beginnings to his latest achievements. This exhibition has featured the largest group of wall drawings ever presented in Europe, covering a space of 1,200 m2.
Chosen from the 1,200 wall drawings created by the artist between 1968 and 2007, the selected drawings reflected both the extraordinary coherence of his systematic explorations (series and rigorous combinations of geometric elements) and the astonishing diversity of his practice, both in the evolution of forms (from simple geometric figures to his “complex” or “continuous” forms) and the materials used (pencil, oil pastel, ink wash, acrylic paint and graphite).
