René Lück - Dresdner Bank AG/Kunst und Wissenshaft 2001

For his exhibition at the Berlin gallery Koch und Kesslau in March, 2001, René Lück constructed three models of the speaker's platform in front of Brandenburg Gate from which Ronald Reagan, in 1987, demanded of Gorbatchev to: "Open this gate".
A model of the stage on a scale of 1:1 filled the entire space of the gallery. Upon opening the entrance door, the visitors were immediately greeted by a banner of flags spanned across the entire front side.
With his work, Lück does not aimt at a true-to-nature reproduction in model form, nor at simply playing with ratios of sizes. His work is moreover, based on the attempt to appropriate an event of contemporary history and set it into relation.
