Notes illustrated with 19 photographs by the author, the Belgian poet, founder and theoretician of surrealism in Belgium, sometimes known as the "Belgian Breton": Paul Nougé. Published in book form by Marcel Mariën until some forty years later, in 1968, this series of photographs was taken between 1929 and 1930. Men and women mime strange actions in a purely descriptive style. For example, balls of decreasing size are placed between the arms of a woman dozing on a table. The subversion at play here takes up a major element of Surrealism: introducing the dream, the imaginary and the marvellous into the banality of reality.

Rare copy of the original edition, in perfect condition, numbered and signed "MM" by Marcel Mariën.
