Born in 1963 in Tokyo, Junko Oki lives and works in Kanagawa, Japan where she creates unique works using the embroidery technique. Oki began embroidering on her own, using fabric and thread left by her mother, and since her beginnings as an embroiderer of garments and bags, in recent years she has developed works that go beyond the realms of painting and sculpture. Her work has been the subject of international exhibitions at Office Baroque, Brussels; KOSAKU KANECHIKA and Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo, among others. Institutional presentations include Hagi Museum, Hagi and 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Japan.
