Jan Dibbets - 3.x - bkSM 2011

The Dutch artist Jan Dibbets is one of the most influential artists who, in the late 1960s, acted as a bridge-builder between Europe and conceptual art in America. His early work with grass, neon and, later, his famous ‘perspective corrections’ led to conceptual questions about how we view the world. Jan Dibbets uses photography – which he manipulates and employs as a medium to mislead the viewer – to create art in which aesthetics enters into dialogue with mathematics, science and, later, monochrome painting. In close consultation with Jan Dibbets and Rudi Fuchs (director of Documenta 1982), this masterful body of work is being made accessible to a wide audience. A substantial SM booklet will accompany this unique project.
