James Turrell - Eclipse - Hatje Cantz 1999

Published to commemorate the event of the solar eclipse on 11 August 1999, for which James Turrell has created a new Skyspace, The Elliptic Ecliptic in Tremenheere, Cornwall. The Gazing Engine has been composed by Paul Schütze in response to it, by Langlands & Bell and has been remade for the Newlyne Art Gallery. All three projetcs have been commissioned by Michael Hue-Williams Fine Art, London.
This publication and project was presented in association with St Ives International, an organisation formed to promote contemporary art in Cornwall.
Its programme for 1999, the year of the total eclipse of the Sun on 11 August is As Dark as Light. For this, Turrell has exhibited Arcus at Newlyn Art Gallery from 19 June to 21 August.
