Slimane Hedi

Hedi Slimane - Stage - 7L 2004

Through his collaborations with musicians and his work on stage costumes, Hedi Slimane gained rare access to the backstage and stages of live concerts by artists including David Bowie, The White Stripes, Beck, The Rolling Stones, Blondie, The Strokes and The Libertines, photographed across Paris, London, Berlin, New York and Los Angeles.
Stage is a personal photographic exploration of the mythology of the rock concert. Rather than focusing on the performers themselves, Slimane turns his camera toward the empty stage, backstage spaces and traces left behind—spaces charged with the anticipation, ritual and construction of a rock persona. The photographs evoke what Slimane describes as the sacred, almost sacrificial, space of the stage.
