Hans-Peter Feldmann - 100 Jahre - Schirmer/Mosel 2001

Born in 1941, Hans-Peter Feldmann, artist, passionate photo collector and specialist in commercial photography, picked up the camera himself for his latest project. The 100 Jahre series consists of portraits of 101 people from his own circle of family, friends and acquaintances: one person for each year of a life generously estimated at 100 years, starting with an eight-week-old baby and ending with a 100-year-old woman. If a person of a certain age was missing from his own immediate circle, he found them among the parents, children, friends of friends and acquaintances - and authenticity within the numerical sequence was once again assured. With his Jahre project, Feldmann pursues several intentions: in addition to the personal one of bringing together and documenting people from his private circle of life and thereby becoming aware of his own advanced age position, he is also concerned with the overarching aspect that ultimately every viewer can find themselves in the finite series of possible ages.
