Béatrice Lortet - Album - La Houle 2021

Béatrice Lortet "Album" is conceived as a hybrid object, spanning the exhibition space and its editorial form: a 1:1 reproduction (photogravure) of drawings and paintings (mixed media) in A4 format. Canopies captured in shimmering backlight, fibrils coursed with contradictory energies, sharp vegetal densities—Béatrice Lortet’s landscapes, the result of a process of collage, montage, and juxtaposition, are brought together in a catalog of sketches and gestures where the image’s genesis appears intermittently.
The originals comprising this edition point to an artistic practice rooted in daily studio work. The aim is to reflect on the transition from the original to the multiple and from the studio to dissemination, using the book as a medium. Through the facsimile, the image is brought as close as possible to its materiality to rediscover a plastic sensibility.
The metal-riveted binding allows the pages of the edition to be separated, enabling the images to unfold in new contexts of exhibition and spatial arrangement. The work, thus published and exhibited, offers a range of potential gestures for the use of viewers and readers, opening the object to new possibilities and new appropriations depending on its context of visibility.
