SANDRINE MORGANTE - WALEN BOURGEOIS BUITEN
Friday January 17 - 7pm
Book launch & Conversation with Els Roelandt
Walen Bourgeois Buiten self-published at the occasion of Sandrine Morgante exhibition at Lichtekooi Airspace Antwerp in September 2024.
The issues of Ons Leven are compiled into a volume of facsimiles. An edition where Sandrine Morgante intervenes in two ways: she strips the issues of all advertising and any non-political element. Furthermore, she writes summary drawings on the pages, in the form of summary political cartoons, without style. Drawings and caricatures evoking the struggles and questions of our time: Palestine, ecology, social struggles. Way of extending and updating the gesture of appropriation which was that of this pirate editorial team of the periodical. Way of affirming filiation and continuity.
Sandrine Morgante (b. 1986 in Liège, BE lives and works in Brussels, BE), grew up in the countryside near Liège, studied at La Cambre drawing department, Brussels, where she has been a teacher’s assistant, before starting a residency at HISK in Gent, BE. Her work has been shown in Belgian art venues like IKOB, WIELS, Art Contest, Boverie, SPACE and as international contributions in magazines such Archivio magazine, Revue Roven, Kluger Hans, and TIM. Her works, which deal with writing and speech, are visual transcriptions of dialogues from interviews, audio recordings of nocturnal thoughts, or memories of spontaneous conversations. She is represented by Galerie Nadja Vilenne.
