Serge Gainsbourg - Melody Nelson - Editeur Eric Losfeld 1971
Very rare booklet published by Éric Losfeld (rue de Verneuil) in 1971.
Featuring lyrics from the 1971 album Histoire de Melody Nelson, this rare book was the only collaboration between Sege Gainsbourg and the publisher.
The book was no more successful than the vinyl album. Sales did not exceed a fairly limited number. The result was an inert stock that slumbered gently in Losfeld's reserves. After that, hypotheses diverge. For some, the remaining copies disappeared, no doubt looted, during Losfeld's last bankruptcy. For others, they were found at Charlotte's home or that of her mother, Jane Birkin.
This most impossible to find – is considered the most valuable book in the entire Gainsbourg bibliography.
This little book is in paperback. The cover is illustrated with a portrait of Jane Birkin by Tony Franck, using the photo from the album. Jane Birkin poses with her childhood doll, a little monkey, which gave rise in 1969 to the song Orang-Outan, featured on the album Je t'aime... moi non plus and 69 Année érotique.
