Manuel Wetscher - Richard - Daisy 2024

Richard is an artist's book by photographer and video artist Manuel Wetscher. It brings together the unpublished photographic archives of his father Richard Jenewein, discovered years after his death from AIDS. With Richard's illness long concealed by the family, and the cause of his death only discovered by Manuel ten years later, the book questions the evocative power of an altered narrative. Inside a universal family album documenting his childhood, surrounded by his sister and mother, from the late 1980s to the early 1990s, the book (which also brings together photographs taken during their travels in Australia, Spain, Greece, India and Yugoslavia, and stops at the death of his father) deals with the effects of a taboo and the poetic power of images.
