When Attitudes Become Form: Bern 1969 / Venice 2013 - Fondazione Prada 2013

Published by Fondazione Prada in conjunction with the 2013 Venice reconstruction of Harald Szeemann’s landmark 1969 exhibition Live in Your Head: When Attitudes Become Form, originally presented at the Kunsthalle Bern. The project, conceived by Germano Celant with Thomas Demand and Rem Koolhaas, reconstructed the exhibition within Ca’ Corner della Regina, preserving the spatial relationships and architectural structure of Szeemann’s original presentation while bringing its historical context into dialogue with the present. This substantial volume documents the original 1969 exhibition and its 2013 reactivation through installation views, archival photographs, reproductions of works and extensive documentation of the artists and projects involved. It includes contributions addressing Szeemann’s curatorial approach, the history of the Bern exhibition and the question of reconstructing a seminal exhibition more than forty years after its original presentation. Artists represented include Joseph Beuys, Giovanni Anselmo, Robert Barry, Michael Heizer, Richard Long, Walter De Maria, Eva Hesse, Bruce Nauman, Lawrence Weiner and Gilberto Zorio, among many others.
