Breton André

Violette Nozières - Editions Nicolas Flamel 1933

First rare edition of the collective surrealist publication with texts by André Breton, René Char, Paul Eluard, Maurice Henry, E.L.T. Mesens, César Moro, Benjamin Peret and Guy Rosey, illustrated by Salvator Dali, Yves Tanguy, Max Ernst, Victor Brauner, René Magritte, Marcel Jean, Hans Arp, and Alberto Giacometti.
Violette Nozière, 18 years old, goes down in crime history with her black beret and fur collar. She poisoned her father and mother one suffocating day in August 1933. This double parricide sent the whole of Paris into a frenzy. The father died, the mother survived. Violette Nozière, symbol of female independence in 1930s Paris, had been raped by her father since the age of 12.
