La Mode Illustrée

La Mode illustrée - Trente-huitième année - Firmin-Didot 1897

La Mode illustrée, subtitled Journal de la famille, was a French magazine published by Firmin-Didot. Created in 1860 by Emmeline Raymond, it was a non-elitist magazine aimed at middle-class women. The author gave her best advice on many aspects of domestic life (sewing, hairdressing and interior decoration), as well as advice on family and social life. Madame Raymond edited this magazine, one of the leading women's magazines of the 19th century, from 1860 to 1902. With its high-quality illustrations, La Mode Illustrée was a great success, selling as far afield as the United States.
This volume includes all issues from 1897, which have been smartly bound together. And this one is a bit special in that between pages 558 and 559, it contains a small paper box folded according to the instructions of a tutorial on instant boxes. The other surprise was that this little box was made from a recipe that has miraculously stood the test of time.
