Wéry Marthe

Marthe Wéry - vues - couper ou pas couper 2007

Without claiming to replace Marthe Wéry's vision, this book reflects the need to pay tribute to her. If the authors' first intention was to bring together the articles that appeared in the pages FluxNews devoted to Marthe following her death, in its April 2005 issue. (...)
The documentary wealth of Philippe De Gobert's archives, augmented by other views (...) are brought together to articulate the work around a visual chronology.
This chronology is not, however, a biography. The moments selected were chosen for their interest, information and the beauty of the documents themselves, while giving priority to the many that had never been shown before.
Born in Brussels, Marthe Wéry completed her artistic education in Paris. From her first abstract paintings, she never stopped refining the canvas to further enrich her art. In 1975, she participated in an exhibition that would mark a milestone: Fundamental Painting (Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum 1975). Invited to Documenta VI (Cassel, 1977), she presented an ensemble of "lined drawings".
