Hans Hartung - So beschwor ich den Blitz - König 2004
Catalogue of the exhibition of same name, held at Museum Ludwig, Köln in 2004.
Published on the centenary of his birth, this classically designed book offers insights into Hartung's work and contrasts early small-format works on paper from the 1920s with late monumental paintings that he created in the last decade before his death in 1989. Between these two parts, the book presents an overview of around 75 works from the early 1920s to his last oeuvre. The annotated and illustrated 30-page biography provides an insight into the artist's extremely eventful life.
Hans Hartung's paintings were once described as "solitary psychograms of existence". For his 100th birthday this survey of all his work contrasts the small works on paper from the 20's with the late monumental paintings from the last decade before his death in 1989 and includes a biography.
Texts by Stephan Diederich, Chantal Eschenfelder, Markus Lüpertz.
