Magistretti Vico

Vico Magistretti - Designer - Ernst & Sohn 1991

Italian design's international success is to no small extent based on the work of Vico Magistretti. Like many Italian designers, Vico Magistretti was an architect first, then turned to design. Even in the 50s he was looking for ways of combining classical elements of Modernism with a new sense of form. This led him down some unusual paths, which in the sixties attracted due attention. This was a period in which his most famous works like the »Carimate« and »Selene« armchairs appeared. Objects designed by Magistretti show the influence of the Bauhaus, but also a concern for solutions using new forms and combinations. The result is plain elegance of the kind often striven for, but rarely achieved. The book offers a critical survey of Magistretti's work from the 60s onwards, with full analysis and commentaries.
