Gino Sarfatti - Opere scelte 1938-1973 Selected works - Silvana Editoriale 2012

The lover of the light bulb Gino Sarfatti (1912–1985), abandoned his studies in aeronautical engineering for financial reasons, and founded the internationally famous interior design firm Arteluce. In his 30-year career, Sarfatti designed and produced more than 600 lighting fixtures, from the globular and mobile to the mushroomed, coiled and woven, continuously exploring and innovating new ways of manufacturing and forming the bulbs, cords and stands that light our interior worlds, even pioneering the use of halogen bulbs in fixtures as early as 1971. He preferred to be known as a “technician” rather than “artist” which may have contributed to his lack of recognition in the art world, but this study fully repents the oversight and illuminates his successes in over a 1,000 images.
