Peter Downsbrough - Roles/Architectonics - ICSAC 1983
Among the books created by Peter Downsbrough since the late 1960s, ROLES/ARCHITECTONICS stands out in several respects. Firstly, it is the only book to consist of a text written by the artist and illustrated by photographs clearly distinguished from the text. Secondly, the book is set in a specific historical context and individual experience: the artist's first trip to Poland, where he took part in the Konstrukcja w procesie (Construction in Process) exhibition in Lódz in October 1981. Exceptional, finally - and this is fundamental in this context - because this book was published on the occasion of the artist's only lecture to date, of which it constitutes both a documentary and artistic transcription.
