Romeo Castellucci - The Minister's Black Veil - deSingel/Societas 2016

Published on the occasion of R.Castellucci's second stage of the similar named play, with William Dafoe. 
The Minister's Black Veil' is the title of a novella by the American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne. This 'parable' from 1837 is about a pastor in a small village who suddenly decides to cover his face with a black veil. Nobody understands why and he does not explain. By hiding his face from others and himself, he becomes an outcast. The short story refers to a sermon by Reverend Hooper, but the writer does not reveal its content. Castellucci asked his sister to fill the gap. With this monologue, performed in a church and specially created for deSingel, he seals his acquaintance with the American theatre and film actor Willem Dafoe.
