James Lee Byars - The Death of James Lee Byars / Invitation - Galerie Marie-Puck Broodthaers 1994

Red cardboard printed in black on the front (10.5 × 15.5 cm), envelope cancelled.
Invitation to the famous performance organized at the Galerie Marie-Puck Broodthaers on July 1, 1994. The card bears only the title of the exhibition, the date and place being specified on the envelope.

The artist's symbolic staging of his own death is now considered one of his most emotionally powerful works. In a room entirely covered in gold leaf, James Lee Byars, dressed in gold and wearing a mask, assumed the position of the deceased, then stood up and placed five crystals in the places of his legs, arms and head. The imprint of his body formed a pentagram, in reference to Leonardo da Vinci.

Including a golden leaf of the exhibition, collected by the guest.
