Dr. Shinobu Ishihara
"This series of plates is designed to provide a test which gives a quick and accurate assessment of colour vision deficiency of congenital origin. This is the commonest form of colour vision disturbances."
In 1917, as a young professor at the University of Tokyo, Dr. Shinobu Ishihara was given the task of creating a colour perception test for soldiers.
A hundred of years later, the United States Navy continues to use these plates for color vision screening.
