Julião Sarmento - 75 fotografias / 35 mulheres / 42 anos - Babel 2011
Since the beginning of his career, the representation of women – the body, their poses and gestures, potentially as expressions of desire and erotic suggestion – has been one of the recurring themes in Julião Sarmento's artistic imagination. Although his work is marked by the use of different modes of artistic production (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, video), it is interesting to note that the practice of portraiture has been preferably associated with the photographic exercise.
This exhibition catalogue confirms and allows us to better understand this inclination: there are 75 photographic portraits (mostly unpublished) taken by the artist from the end of the 60s to the present. Records of a personal and intimate nature are included, including images with more informal, spontaneous and playful characteristics, to photographs that suggest aesthetic and conceptual intentions that inevitably take us back to his artistic work.
102p - PTG - 24,5x19,7cm - hardcover - great condition
